Description
Fundamentals of obstetric ultrasound includes academic (knowledge) and practical (skills) domains. It will start with an initial study period of 8 weeks. In Stage 1, you will develop your core knowledge and skills. We will facilitated your learning with lectures, e-books links, and a selection of videos demonstrating key obstetric scanning techniques. Additionally, we have carefully selected open source learning material. You will also acquire knowledge of core ultrasound scanning techniques and take a number of online quizzes.
In Stage 2 of fundamentals of obstetric ultrasound, you will continue to develop your knowledge of complex topics. Ultimately, you conclude the academic component with a final knowledge exam. Furthermore, during stage 2, you will need to demonstrate acquisition of practical skills. You achieve this through submission of required representative images of common obstetric case scenarios. Examples include, confirming pregnancy location (intra- or extra-uterine), viability, assess early pregnancy at booking as well as recognise normal anatomical structures. Additionally, fetal biometry is a core component of this course. If appropriate to your role, you will utilise the above skills to formulate a plan of action.
You will conclude the practical domain with an assessment of your practical skills using our state of the art simulators. For more information on this link, follow this link. Additionally, this course is aligned with the RCOG ultrasound curriculum requirement in advanced obstetric scanning and is essential before starting fetal medicine training.
