Description
Foundations of general medical ultrasound will start with an initial study period of 12 weeks. In Term 1 you will develop your core knowledge and skills. Course faculty lectures, e-books, a vast selection of videos and open source learning material will facilitate your learning process. During this stage, we expect you to demonstrate knowledge of core ultrasound principles through a number of online quizzes.
In Term 2, you will submit for faculty review representative images or cine loops of common abdominal and urogenital case scenarios identified on transabdominal scanning such as normal and abnormal appearance of hepatic, gall bladder, pancreatic, splenic and renal lesions. If appropriate to your role, you will utilise the above skills to formulate a plan of action.
During the foundations of general medical ultrasound course, you will have 30 hours of free practice on the ScanTrainer simulator in Cardiff. Training sessions are available in half days (09:00 – 13:00 or 13:00 – 17:00) or prearranged blocks of full-day practice. At the end of the module, you’ll have assessments of knowledge and practical skills.
